The PAPI 04L is poorly calibrated !


Several pilots have made this remark. These remarks come from the fact that when aircraft are operating ILS, PAPI indicates 3 red lights.

PAPI and ILS are both calibrated to 3°. However, PAPI was regulated for the pilot eye for B747 pilots, the largest airplane liable to use the Nice platform. For all the smaller aircrafts, the pilot eye is lower than the plan of PAPI and therefore three red lights are seen.

The choice of the B747 as the key airplane for PAPI calibration was made at the request of the airline companies using the Nice airport.
