What happens when the minima for Saleya are not reached? When the minimal weather conditions required to use the former Blue Bay procedure were not met, the standard circling with prescribed tracks procedure was used, with potentially dangerous safety consequences (low altitude turns with low ceilings). Therefore this standard circling procedure was suppressed. The circling procedure which already existed, was prohibited northwest of the airfield because of high ground obstacles. In practice, when the circling procedure was in use (when there was a breakdown of radio-electric means, for example), the pilots carried out their evolutions south-east of the airfield. They resembled standard circling with prescribed tracks procedures and the same negative consequences for safety were noted. In order not to make the same mistakes, the civil aviation service therefore decided to no longer use - except in exceptional situations - the circling type approach procedure for landing on runways 22L and 22R. Specifically the mere absence of conditions for the activation of the Saleya procedures (weather conditions) does not constitute a reason for using a circling procedure. This procedure will only be authorized on a limited basis. |
